Revolutionizing AECO with AI: Key Insights from ENR FutureTech

We had the pleasure of attending ENR FutureTech conference, and participating in the closing keynote, Revolutionizing Information Management in AECO: Generative AI and the Creation of Knowledge Twins, alongside our CEO, Ivan Panushev and our partner at SHoP Architects, Geoff Bell.

Here are some key takeaways from the event:

  1. Industry Pulse: Over 80% of our colleagues trust AI's transformative potential, especially in design and data retrieval. Amy Jones Snider from Skanska noted that 96% of AEC data goes unused and 90% is unstructured. The primary challenges identified are the technical complexity of integrating AI solutions and ensuring data security.
  2. Evaluating AI Integration: A lunch discussion with leaders from DPR and Doxel emphasized that effective GenAI solutions must deliver nuanced, real-time responses to complex queries with information across diverse data sources. Arvind Jain, CEO of Glean Enterprise Search, argued that while proving ROI on productivity technologies like AI is challenging, their essential value is undeniable, akin to corporate email.
  3. Present and Future of AI in AEC: We showed that the future is now for AI in data retrieval, and that it looks a lot like what we’re piloting with SHoP Architects. Our AI Assistant is trained on your firm’s in-house standards, best practices, and successful projects and is always at your fingertips. This was echoed by startups like Trunk.tools and DocumentCrunch. Services like Guru show a glimpse of how AI may revolutionize how firms manage and utilize data in the future, transforming raw data into valuable internal resources like intranets and expert wikis.

We are excited about this incredible time that we’re living in and the opportunity to bring the power of AI to the AEC sector.
